street & direct campaign

The in-person push — say it, show the code, done.

The grassroots half of the campaign: today's to-do, the exact words to say when you approach someone or slide into DMs, the QR you hold out on the street, and where to post (Reddit rules included). The online content plan lives in the Marketing HQ.

The move on the street: read the script (it's for your eyes), then flip your phone to the QR page and let them scan. The QR is deliberately script-free — it's what they see. Event: Fri July 3 · 6–8 PM · Griffintown · 22–27 · free.

The scripts — what to actually say

// short, warm, no pitch energy · the invite does the work — you just hand it over

① The street / in-person approach ★

4 lines. Say the first two, watch for a smile, then show the QR and say the last two.

Say this (ready to go)
“We’re hosting a small wine & cheese speed-dating night this Friday in Griffintown — 22 to 27.
You’d be a perfect fit.
Here’s the invite — scan this, and you’re on the list.
First round’s on us. 🍷”
The reusable template (swap the brackets for next time)
“We’re hosting a small wine & cheese speed-dating night [date] in Griffintown [this Friday] [22–27].
You’d be a perfect fit.
Here’s the invite — scan this, and you’re on the list.
[first round’s covered].”
Delivery: smile first, low-key, not salesy — you’re doing them a favour, not asking one. Lead with “small” and “curated” (feels safe, not a mass event). If it’s a woman on her own, add “my co-host [co-host]’s running it with me” — the biggest trust cue. If they hesitate: “no pressure — the invite’s free, scan it and decide later.”

② DM version — same words, adapted

For the “dm” to-do. Send the Luma link instead of the QR. Personalise the first line.

Warm DM (someone you know / know of)
“hey [name]! we’re throwing a small wine & cheese speed-dating night this Friday (Jul 3) in Griffintown — 22–27, super low-key. you’d be a perfect fit 🍷 here’s the invite, first round’s on us: [Luma link]. bring a friend — you’re both in.”
Cold-ish DM (mutual / found via a post)
“hey! saw you’re in mtl — we’re hosting a small, curated wine & cheese speed-dating night Fri Jul 3 in Griffintown (22–27, free). keeping it balanced and low-key. want the invite? 🍷”
The co-host’s own DM scripts are in Marketing → Co-host brief. Women-first: her network is the ratio.

The QR — what you hold out

// open it on your phone before you walk up · it works offline (no signal needed)

🍷 Open the street QR page →Toggle between RSVP (Luma) and Follow (@speed_dating_mtl). Big, high-contrast, scans in a second. open ›
  • It works with no signal. The codes are baked into the page, so it scans even in a dead zone — no loading, no “no internet.”
  • Max your screen brightness before you show it — that’s the #1 factor in how fast a camera locks on.
  • Keep the script on this page, not the QR page. The QR page is what strangers see — it stays clean on purpose.
  • Default to RSVP when recruiting; flip to Follow for people who want to “check the vibe first.”
  • Need it printed for a table/board? Use the materials.html QR sign — but for hand-to-hand, the phone page beats paper.

DMs — the highest-converting channel

// ~90% of your turnout · women-first · 1-on-1, never a broadcast

  • Hit your ~10 strongest anchors first, 1-on-1, personalised — not a copy-paste blast. Use script .
  • Ask each for one vouch: “who’s one cool person — ideally a girl, for ratio — you’d bring?” Turns 10 DMs into 20+ warm leads.
  • “Bring a friend, you’re both in” on every DM — pairs show up braver and flake less.
  • Reply fast to anyone who bites; send the Luma link the moment they say yes.
  • Track who’s confirmed vs. maybe — you’ll re-confirm everyone 2 days out (free events flake ~50%).

Posters — where they actually work

// print the poster + QR from materials.html · legal + high-traffic spots

  • Print from materials.html — the 1080×1350 poster with the QR baked in. Paste your Luma link there once → the QR updates → screenshot/print while online.
  • Best spots: café bulletin boards (ask first — most say yes), Concordia/McGill/Dawson boards, gyms/climbing gyms, laundromats, indie coffee shops in the Plateau/Mile End/Griffintown, community centres.
  • Montreal poster law: putting posters on public poles/hydro poles is fined — stick to bulletin boards + private walls with permission. Café/shop windows only with staff OK.
  • QR must be big + scannable from the poster — test the scan before you print a stack.
  • Bring secret cards (below) to hand out where a poster won’t go — sit on a table, tuck into a coffee sleeve.

Print the cards + slice

// two jobs on the to-do: the in-person handout, and the game decks for the night

① The secret invite card (handout)

The black-and-gold in-person handout for people you meet during recruiting week — secret-card.html. Print on cardstock, slice, carry a stack. Hand one over right after the street script if they can’t scan right now.

② The Hinged / Unhinged game decks

The 🟢/🔴 icebreaker cards played at the tables — print + cut from hinged-unhinged-cards.html. Cut SMALL decks: ~8–10 cards per table, not 80 — a pair only gets through 2–3 per round. ~10–12 tables ≈ ~100 cards total. First set today, the rest before the night.

On cardstock, guillotine or paper-cutter if you have one — clean edges read as “real event,” not homemade. Number the tables while you’re at it.

Reddit — organic first, ads second

// one value-first post per sub · framed as “I’m hosting this, here’s the vibe” · never a flyer-dump

The rule of thumb

One well-written, non-spammy, value-first post per sub, framed as “I’m hosting this, here’s the vibe, would love locals” — not a flyer dump. Mods nuke flyer-dumps. Where self-promo is restricted, comment helpfully and let people find your profile, or use the sub’s weekly thread.

Where to post — by how event-friendly they are

  • ⚠ r/montreal — read the rules first. Self-promo is heavily restricted; an event-promo post will likely get removed unless it reads as genuinely community-useful. Better: comment helpfully and let people find your profile, or post in a weekly thread if they have one.
  • ✅ Event-friendlier: r/mtlsocial, r/MontrealSocialClub-type subs, and r/montrealentrepreneurs.
  • 🎓 Student-heavy, more tolerant of “hey I’m running X”: r/AskMontreal, r/Concordia, r/mcgill — and all the campus subs (add Dawson, UdeM, McGill grad subs, etc.).
  • 💘 On-topic but small: r/MontrealDating-type subs — exactly your audience, just lower volume.
The frame that survives mods: lead with the vibe and the “why,” not the logistics. “I got tired of loud bars so I’m throwing a small wine & cheese speed-dating night for the 22–27 crowd — here’s what it is, would love some locals” → then the link, once, at the end. Reply to every comment; it reads as a person, not a promo.

Reddit paid ads (the “reddit ads” to-do) — optional, secondary

If you want paid reach: Reddit Ads can target by subreddit + Montreal geo, and it’s cheap, but it converts worse than Meta for a hyper-local IRL event. Do organic first — it’s free and higher-trust here. Only buy Reddit ads if organic posts get traction and you want to amplify. Otherwise put the budget on Meta.

Paid ads — Insta + FB

// the full Meta kit already exists — don’t rebuild it

The exact Meta Ads settings, the four copy variants, the shot-by-shot video ads, and the image specs are all in Marketing HQ → Paid ads. Insta + FB run through the same Meta campaign.

  • ~$40 lifetime, Jun 29 → Jul 2 (kill it once the list is full).
  • Two ad sets: all-genders + the b-roll/host video · women-only + the girl’s UGC (women are the constraint — buy them directly).
  • Griffintown +10 km · 22–27 · Reels+Stories+Feed.
  • Reddit ads: see above — organic first.
