The transformation

Drag it — same room, two nights

A quick stylized preview. The real photos & how-to are right below.

Before · fluorescent
After · candlelit

The whole shift is light + colour temperature + three props.

Lighting · quick · easy · huge

How to actually do it

Lighting is ~80% of the vibe and the cheapest thing you control. Warm-white only (2700K — cool white reads "meeting room"), kill the overheads, layer 3–4 sources at different heights. Real references and a budget tutorial below.

  1. $0Kill every overhead / fluorescent. The single biggest move. Flat ceiling light is what makes a room feel like an office.
  2. ~$3/bulbSwap to warm-white 2700K bulbs in every lamp. Cool white = clinical. Warm = intimate. This one number matters more than fixtures.
  3. $10–20String / fairy lights (warm white) along the walls and laid down the centre of the food table.
  4. $10Candles / battery tealights everywhere — scatter on tables and around the cheese board. Flicker = warmth. Flameless if the venue requires.
  5. borrowLayer 3–4 light sources at different heights — floor lamp + table lamps + string + candles. Never one bright source.
  6. Point light down and at the food. The board is the hero — light it, dim everything else. Keep one slightly brighter "photo corner" for content.

🛒 The minimal lighting kit (~$85, mostly reusable)

20-min setup: overheads OFF → string lights along the walls + down the centre of the food table → swap lamp bulbs to 2700K and point lamps at the walls to bounce → scatter tealights on every table + the board → test with overheads off and adjust until it's warm but you can still read faces.

Room · furniture

Table layout & setting the room

Zone the room into four areas so the night runs itself. The food/bar goes far from the seats on purpose — it drags the crowd across the room on the break and seeds the mingle.

🚪 Check-inname tags · $20 · cards
🧀🍷 Grazing table + wine barthe hero — well-lit, against the far wall
💬 Speed-round stationsstayers seated · movers rotate +1 on the bell
✨ Open minglehigh-tops · standing room · a couple of soft seats
🧥 Coats

Flow: 🚪 arrive → 💬 rounds → 🧀 break at the board → ✨ mingle.

Option A · Two-tops RECOMMENDED

~10–15 small numbered tables, each seats 2. Intimate, quieter per chat, photographs best, and turns into the mingle setup on its own. Number each + an arrow so movers know where to go next.

Option B · One long banquet row

Tables in a single line, a row of chairs on each side. Stayers one side, movers shift one seat down each bell (end seat loops to the front). Reliable + compact when furniture's tight — but louder.

The rotation

One side stays, the other moves up one each bell. Highest number loops back to #1.

Stay 🪑12345
Move →ABCDE⟳ +1 each round

Women stay (dates come to them — feels safer); men move, carrying their drink + match card. Stations = exactly the number of pairs (12+12 → 12 tables) + 1–2 spare chairs. Keep 3–4 ft between stations so conversations don't bleed; small tables beat wide ones for hearing.

One circle or two? ≤20 people (≤10 pairs) → run one rotation, ~10 rounds, everyone meets everyone in ~40 min. >20 (e.g. 30 = 15 pairs) → split into two parallel circles of ~12–15 each so rounds stay ~8 and the night doesn't drag past 45 min.

Tables

~10–15 two-tops, OR 4–6 folding banquet tables. Rental folding table ~$10–15.

Chairs

2 per station + spares (~30 total). Rental ~$2–3 ea, or borrow / use venue's.

Mingle

2–3 cocktail high-tops (~$15–25 rental ea) or just open floor + any existing soft seating.

Source it

Ask the venue first — most Griffintown spaces have tables + chairs, which zeroes this. Else: Locations Chic / Vaisloc / AMA.

🎬 Film TODAY — the announcement video

Your #1 job today. ~35 seconds, talking to camera, natural light. Built straight from your Luma details.

Glance-bullets (don't memorize)

• Wine & cheese speed dating in Montreal • July 3 · Griffintown · 22–27 • For people over the dating apps • Small curated group · good wine · big cheese board · warm light • 3-min rounds + slightly-unhinged icebreaker cards → open mingle • No clubby chaos, no awkward standing around • FREE — I've got the wine & cheese • Limited spots, ratio-balanced • CTA: comment WINE → I send the link · bring a friend

Word-for-word (~35s)

On screen, frame 1: “i'm throwing a wine & cheese speed dating night 🍷”

“Okay, I'm doing something a little crazy. I'm hosting a cozy wine and cheese speed dating night in Montreal — July 3rd, in Griffintown, for people 22 to 27 who are honestly just over the apps. The vibe: a small curated group, good wine, a big cheese board, warm lighting — a few quick three-minute rounds with fun, slightly unhinged icebreaker cards, then open mingling so you actually talk to the people you click with. No clubby chaos, no standing awkwardly in a corner. It's completely free — I've got the wine and cheese — spots are limited and I'm keeping it balanced. So if this is your thing — comment WINE and I'll send you the link. And bring a friend.”

End card: “comment WINE 🍷 · link in bio”

🔴 “Unhinged” — the Hinge-parody video

A funny spin on Hinge: read app-style prompts, answer them unhinged, then reveal you made the app real. Great for day 2–3.

On screen: “Hinge prompts but make it 🔴 unhinged”

“We'll get along if…” — you don't make me text for three weeks before we actually meet.
“My most irrational fear…” — another situationship.
“Green flags I look for…” — you exist, in person, holding a glass of wine.
“Dating me is like…” — a three-minute speed round, and then you decide. Literally.

Then the pivot: “So I made the app real. Wine and cheese speed dating, July 3rd, Montreal — the night you delete the apps. Link in bio.”

End card: “🔴 Unhinged · July 3 · link in bio”

🎥 Day-of shot-list

Before doors

Start the setup timelapse · the hero board (close + overhead) · empty-room “before”.

Arrival

Pouring wine · name tags · the room filling. Anonymized, consent at the door.

During

Wide “room buzzing” shot · candid laughs · cards in use · the bell/rotation moment.

Interviews (opt-in)

“Why'd you say yes tonight?” · “Best convo so far?” · “Rate the wine /10” · “One word for tonight?” · “Coming to the next one?”

One hero moment

A group shot or styled wall moment for the recap thumbnail.

Consent rule

Ask at the door. Public posts default to b-roll / anonymized; faces only for opt-ins.

Two rules: the first second is the whole video (boldest text on frame one), and repost every tag/comment to your story instantly to trigger a chain. ⚠ Dating event → faces = you only pre-event; anonymize guests unless they opt in.

Eventbrite / Luma listing

The cover image — real, not AI

A strong cover lifts sign-ups up to ~25% (Eventbrite's own data). The rule: one strong real photo, minimal text, no AI. Eventbrite even tells you to skip generic stock — your own phone shot of your actual setup beats everything.

Specs

2160×1080 px (2:1), under 10 MB. Keep text/faces centred — mobile crops the edges. Don't put date, time or price on the image; the listing has fields for those.

Best move

Shoot your own. Set up one candlelit corner — glass + board + warm light — and take a real photo. Unique, authentic, zero AI smell. The pro move for small events.

If you need stock

Use real free photos (commercial, no attribution): Unsplash + Pexels. Pick warm, slightly imperfect, real ones — not glossy.

🚫 What makes it "smell like AI"

Tells to kill

Warped or extra fingers, plasticky too-perfect skin, melted text on signs/labels, impossible reflections, generic "diverse people laughing at nothing," over-saturated glow + fake bokeh everywhere, suspiciously symmetrical food.

Reads as human

Real grain and texture, one genuine photo with breathing room, restrained type (1–2 fonts), a real Montreal/Griffintown detail, slight imperfection, lots of negative space, minimal copy.

Eventbrite's own listing tips

Straight from the platform.

Build it in Canva (free): blank 2160×1080 → drop your real photo full-bleed → title in one clean serif + a thin sans subtitle → leave space. Skip the busy templates — they're the #1 "generic/AI" tell.

📸 Ad photos — image-gen with a real-photo vibe

For Meta ads you want authentic "party at the Deck office" energy. The trick to killing AI smell: start from a real reference photo, keep it minimal and candid.

Most authentic (free, 20 min)

Grab 3–5 friends at the office after work. Overheads off, fairy lights + candles, a board + wine glasses on a table. Shoot candids: mid-laugh with glasses, a “cheers” clink, hands over the board, two people talking, one wide. Portrait mode toward the warm light. Real beats any render — and it's literally your venue.

Image-gen, made to look real

Feed a real reference photo (a Pinterest pin or your own snap) into the tool as a style/reference image, then prompt. Inheriting a real photo's lighting + grain is what makes it pass. Best realism today: Midjourney v7 (--style raw, low stylize, --sref a real pin), Flux, or Google Imagen.

Prompts — paste, tweak the room

Candid iPhone photo, small wine & cheese party in a cozy Montreal loft office, warm string lights and candles, late-20s friends laughing while holding wine glasses, charcuterie board on a wooden table, shallow depth of field, natural skin, slight film grain, documentary, imperfect framing — realistic, not a render --style raw --stylize 50

Close-up candid photo of hands reaching over a charcuterie & cheese board, two glasses of red wine, warm candlelight, blurred cozy office background, film grain, photorealistic, no text

Wide candid snapshot of an after-work mixer in a small modern office, warm low light, string lights, ~15 people late-20s chatting with wine, glass/brick walls, natural ambiance, iPhone photo, slight motion blur, documentary

Negatives / regenerate if you see: extra or merged fingers, text on signs/labels, plastic too-perfect skin, fake bokeh everywhere, suspicious symmetry, oversaturation.

⚠ Meta: a vibe shot is fine, but don't fake specifics you can't deliver. Strongest ad = one real photo from your 20-min shoot, with gen as backup.
